yes. i am officially spoiled. ten. one-zero days off. to be retired, to workout when i want, to watch bad morning television, to get a jump start on my resolutions, to see friends, to see even more family, to drink wine, to watch late-night movies by the fire. yep. it was basically as wonderful as it sounds. so what have i learned from my time off?

one) i love taking a real break & turning off my devices to remember what is really important
two) i need $5,347,233 saved up to retire and lead the life I desire

this october, i ran my very first marathon. all 26.2 of the columbus course {without walking!} which was my only goal. my sis + i {pictured above} actually ended up passing 144 people in the last three miles! which... tells me... i can definitely pick up the pace from the get-go. if i choose to sign up to get hit by a bus again... you'll be the first to know, i'm sure. :)

the maine love story

so i am clearly horribly behind on posting *anything* and everything. but i'm going to catch up! mark my words. let's start with this two part post about the wonderfully amazing state of maine + the amazingly perfect {snowball} wedding we attended there.

all of the wedding guests stayed on the same quaint, little road by the sea in pemaquid, maine.

these photos were taken in our "front yard." what an absolutely perfect idea to stow away all of your guests in a row of shoreside cottages. {seriously. does it get any cuter?}

every house we drove our rental car past was perfect. large or small, elaborate or simple... all of the new england-style architecture was to die for.

as the sun set on our first evening of festivities, we headed out to the bride + groom's favorite local, low key lobster establishment.

we met new friends {hi laura, left} and reunited with old {hello bride, right}.

this, p.s., is where i learned that you need to be careful NOT to eat the lobster's poop.

we spent downtime taking in the scenery.

wading in the crisp, cool waters.

and kayaking in our front yard.

don't worry... i was sure to pack all of my seaside, preppy attire.

at a little salty cafe in damariscotta, we watched this schooner {and the doodle in tow} head out to sea on a lazy sunday afternoon. i could seriously get used to this town.

on the way back to freeport, we passed the famous red's eats... where we quickly learned there is always a line.

beautiful lighthouses sum up the scene.

and rustic charm was around every corner.

especially at the l.l. bean headquarters in freeport.

tons of catalogue covers from rugged years past.

and duh... i clearly cannot leave the state without my picture with the giant boot.

maine truly is vacationland.

i dream of paying another visit to the peaceful, beautiful state {of mind}.

finally... wedding day was upon us! the future mrs. snowball is sporting her new duds as she gets ready for a most amazing wedding day!

At some point last year, I became obsessed with the concept of adulthood, mostly because I have no idea how to be an adult. I don’t mean this in a cutesy adorable way. I mean it in this way where I am actually embarrassed about my inability to function on a day-to-day basis or relate to any of my coworkers despite being roughly the same age. You know those stock photos of children doing things like typing on a computer or sitting in the driver’s seat? That’s how I feel every day. Like a child who is playing dress-up while banging on a keyboard and screaming, “PLEASE ACCEPT ME AS ONE OF YOU” to every grown-up I pass.

A few months ago, I ended up at a wine tasting where everyone there were, well, real people. They had jobs and business cards and said things like “I’m going to go network for a bit” whereas I was an unemployed twenty-two year old whopre-gamed for a free wine tasting. I drank the wine they gave me, and then the wine they didn’t give me, and then I was telling all of these strangers that I was a “professional adult” for a living. They were not impressed. They walked away. But I left with two bottles of Chardonnay.

So somehow I became fascinated with what my mind decides is adult behavior. This past winter, I finally bought a winter coat and wore it when it snowed instead of constantly shivering and I thought, “Yeah! This is what adults do! When it’s cold, they wear coats specifically made for cold weather! Everyone passing by right now knows that I am a grown-up because I have a weather-appropriate coat and I bet they also know that I took vitamins this morning and that there is not a single beer in my purse. They are going to invite me over to a dinner party because they are interested in my thoughts on the financial crisis.” I’ve still never been to a dinner party, but I do take vitamins every once in a while.

last saturday night, we headed out to a friend's 4th of july party in upper arlington.

i got way excited + made these tiny shot glasses of parfaits {red, white + blue, too}! tell me they're not cute.

they even had tiny spoons!

i also made this lemon cake with citrus glaze...

and these cucumbers topped with greek yogurt, feta cheese and chopped kalamata olives.

he blew out a lemon cake candle at third + hollywood... then we celebrated by graduating from putt-putt to the driving range.

soo... i bought this remington typewriter at the short north yard sale for $12. i thought it was a nice edition for my writing room.

one slight problem. i don't have a writing room. + this thing is about half as big as my giant doodle (that's a dog for those of you who think it sounds dirty).

i brought it home + temporarily placed it on the kitchen counter. it took a few hours before i realized the doodle was afraid of it. she refused to enter the kitchen to eat or go outside for fear of passing the "large-smelly-clicky animal."

it's final destination is still tbd.

revamped the lamps with these nautical navy shades from target.

and found this new sleek glass + silver coffee table @ cb2.

the sis helped me make {and by that i mean, she totally made} this navy pillow with gold accents. i hear there are two more in the works.... ahem...

my favorite part about these chairs is the silver button piping.

hot pink accents? yes please.

i found this window frame at a shabby chic recycled boutique in the short north early this spring + just waiting for the right moment to break it out of the closet!

well. as i'm sure you know, tomorrow morning, 4a.m. = royal wedding. yes, i'm one of those. those crazy people getting up at 4a.m. to tune into the today show's pre-coverage and watch the wedding vows @ 6. and i plan on making some breakfast pb + fruit toast and lots {and lots} of cappuccinos!

a few weekends back {when the sun was playing on our team} we grilled burgers + the sister and i introduced the bf to ... phase 10. now, if you are not familiar with this magnificent card game of pure skill mixed with adrenaline, well... you're missing out my friend.

i am borderline obsessed with this concept. it's called "out standing in the field" and their mission is to re-connect diners to the land and the origins of their food, and to honor the local farmers and food artisans who cultivate it.

it's a roving culinary adventure – literally a restaurant without walls. ingredients for the meal are almost all local + generally prepared by a celebrated chef of the region. after a tour of the site, we all settle in: farmers, producers, culinary artisans + diners sharing the long table. there is one coming near me this fall... who wants a seat at one of these tables?

that's right. in a few short weeks i'll be kicking up my feet on the dock of this lovely place.

hanging out in the hot tub + sauna...

relaxing here with a glass of wine...

and taking in the sights for miles.

i can hardly wait for mini-vacay to arrive! sometimes getting away from the norm makes you feel most normal. no internet, cell phones, no traffic noise... ahhh...

so.... i'm redoing my living room slowly but surely. i have already sold my overstuffed chair and purchased two new armless chairs from homegoods. plus, a coffee table that looks very similar to the one below. {pics coming soon!}

i'm thinking my colors will be grey, gold + rustic orange with pops of hot pink in small places.

and i'm experimenting with mixing silvers + golds. i think it's very shabby chic!

i heard this headline on the today show: "taco bell's beef tacos only contain 30% beef!" seriously? didn't we all already know this, decide we're okay with it + continue to order burrito supremes at 79¢ a piece? must be a slow news day. what is next? "kfc's chicken is... fattening!" sigh.

anywho... in light of my current new year nutrition/ health food kick {did i tell you? i'm on a nutrition/ health food kick. that's right. i'm overpaying a nutritionist at my gym to guide my meal choices. but whatevs. it's working. as long as i stay away from taco bell.} i am trying to make better choices all day long, which involve eating lean protein and vegetables at every meal. aside from my new bestie named beano, i'm actually starting to feel better, leaner and healthier - if you will.

last night, the bf + i had taco night. and instead of ground round... i used... ground turkey! *gasp* while this may not be a revelation to you, i am not a very adventurous eater, so the fact that 99% lean turkey could taste as good as {and perhaps better than} red mean was like finding out oprah had a sister. while i still am iffy on the term "turkey tacos" i do think this will be a change up i shall keep.

i didn't take a glamorous food pic of my din last night. so to make this post more interesting, here's a pic of a wiener dog and a barbell.

as i was so gently reminded today by a dear friend who will remain nameless, i haven't been around lately. however, in my defense... i have started falling asleep the moment i stop moving after the hour of 8pm. i can't help it. friday, tuesday, sunday. much like this...

it's true. i fall asleep while i try to do other things.
but, in an effort to overcome this self-diagnosed condition, here i am. let's hope it sticks. {or not. depending on your desire to read ramblings like this.}
