rachel's getting married!

rachel {one of my very best friends} + ian are getting married! 

after attending the wedding ceremony of another friend, the bf + i decided to head to the rossi near my house for drinks + meatballs {yes. meatballs.} it was here i got the txt from rachel "i'm getting married!" swiftly followed by a phone call. before we left the rossi, her sister +i {via txt} had everything planned but the date. {kidding! or am i...}

i think these amazingly adorable cake toppers, shown above, would be perfect! time to customize a little rach + ian atop the cake!

{the proposal.}

apparently ian had their entire cute little  apartment glowing when she came home. so beautiful + romantic. followed by an evening of wine + engagement excitement! they're so cute together! 

what a great time for a surprise for rach! especially after her very first few months back in the states since her two years in morocco with the peace corps. and following her very first week of law school! she definitely deserves the best. i am sooo happy for both of them!

 i can't wait to see the ring + hear what great ideas she has for the wedding!

today i feel like this...

up early to work, a four mile run in this eighty-five degree weather during lunch, a seemingly endless afternoon. finally i am home with my pooped little dog {she went to "school" today + is currently dominating the living room air vent} we're watching my favorite guilty pleasure — gilmore girls :)

as wedding season marches forward, i'm increasingly in awe of the attention to every single detail. the ceremony of this past weekend truly had the bride + groom's unique stamp all over it. carli + vince exchanged vowels in a gorgeous catholic church in cleveland, ohio. carli — being part irish + vince, italian — made their day a day to remember for every single guest.

a bagpipe led the two out of the church. italian group dances were performed at the reception hall — where cheese, olives, wine and pasta was served. and oooh the dancing... maybe i was meant to be italian! 

another personal touch of the evening occurred when carli + her dad surprised us all by taking the stage together for some additional live band entertainment. carli on drums, her dad on guitar. it was truly an ideal giant family wedding + was so nice to see how close they all seem to be.

last year, one of my very best friends was diagnosed with the multiple sclerosis disease. she is dealing amazingly well + doing fantastic. she has a fabulous attitude towards the entire situation. 

now there's something we can all do to help her + others with ms.

help kick multiple sclerosis to the curb by purchasing these amazingly well-designed note cards for just ten dollars. the entire profit will go towards bike ms, enabling those affected by the disease to keep moving. you'll help to fund promising research to provide helpful services + find a cure for those living with ms.

yay, i finally have some of my favorite pics posted from this past weekend in cincinnati. my mom, sister {in the past my grandma...} + i have gone to this tournament every year for the past twelve-ish years. it's our cute little family tradition + i look forward to it every single august. this was the first time i didn't have a measly point + shoot to capture the extreme attractiveness of the players. ahhh. i am hearting the nikon right about now.

last night the bf + i had a cute little double date with my friend slash former roomie, rachel {recently back from two years in morocco with the peace corps} + her bf at surly girl. i love that place, it's like walking into a western slash gothic movie set. {see chandelier above.} they have an amazing microbrew selection on tap {they even denote which are brewed + owned by females} + tons of wines {including organic}. and apparently have to-die-for cupcakes i have yet to try.

it's so interesting hanging out with someone that has been cut off from our usual way of life for so long. for example, i couldn't give her too many dining options because choices are overwhelming. {she told me the cereal aisle was daunting when she reunited with kroger} and once inside the saloon, she mistook the touch-screen jukebox for an atm. {she is so cute.} 

even being able to express thoughts + feelings is different over there. apparently in mandarin there is "sad" + "mad" so you can't say you're upset, frustrated, etc. makes one really appreciate everything we have + at the same time, question what life would be like without all the choices and unnecessary "things". i find her stories fascinating + could listen to her talk about her trip all day!

oh well. i guess i'd take 37 types of microbrews and a touch screen jukebox any day. we had a blast with rach + ian :) they are adorable.

what are miracle berries? 

only the latest + greatest in underground trends. the miracle fruit, synsepalum dulcificum, is native to west africa and has been known to westerners since the 18th century. the cause of the reaction is a protein called miraculin, which binds with the taste buds and acts as a sweetness inducer when it comes in contact with acids. thus a lemon tastes sweet, not sour + jalapeños are a real treat.  this the phenomena known as "flavor tripping" is born.

a documentary featuring art directors + copywriters who've gone through the mass recent layoffs. now they're coming together to create projects they're actually passionate about. {rather than simply figuring out how to sell one brand of toothpaste over another.} they're working on things that matter, projects that make a difference in the lives of real people. yes, i realize i've just slammed my own industry, but sometimes it can honestly be numbing. focusing creative efforts on something bigger... freedom outside the agency walls, even for a side project or two. you know, it  looks appealing every now and again. 

{i think this film will make every creative momentarily consider quitting their job. if only money wasn't a factor.}

here comes the wedding season...

wedding season is upon us. this summer slash fall, we have four weddings to attend in 1.5 months, starting this coming saturday. while i am still currently searching for the perfect shoes — the bf has found the perfect suit. this hugo boss number was too good to pass up at the nordstroms anniversary sale this weekend! i'm sure i'll post pictures of it in action after the festivities. can't wait!

the bf + i saw funny people this weekend. i found it hilarious with a refreshingly interesting story line. although there have been some... not so hot reviews, i still highly recommend it. have you seen it? if so, comment + share your mini-review.

my a/c is out, windows are wide open + it just started pouring outside. i was about to complain about the lack of sun + lack of electric powered unit to cool me from said sun... when i smelled the fresh aroma of raindrops breezing through my living room window. ahhh... smells amazing!
